mailing DVD in case via USPS Media mail for ebay and concerned about dvd reaching safely?

I put the dvd in a envelope bubble-wrap mailer [wal-mart]. Will this be enough to make sure it reaches safely. buyer didn't opt for insurance.

any low cost ways to add padding if necessary? ex: newspaper or something.

Also for the envelope, would an an envelope that is tight fitting the DVD [smaller] or a larger envelope with more room be better. Thanks.

WRONG. It's always your problem.

eBay will screw the shipper EVERY time. If it gets lost or damaged, you are liable. So you have to require insurance. That covers loss or obvious damage. Not impact damage. If you put it in a padded envelope and drop it 8 feet, can the DVD dislodge from the case? Will it be damaged? That's shock damage - and insurance will not cover it. That falls under "incorrect packaging."

I have been selling on eBay for 10 years - I speak from experience. I had two packages go missing last month. No insurance was purchased. I was stuck for both.

You can purchase CD or DVD mailers - they are around .55 each, in case lots. These have corner "crumple zones" to absorb damage from dropping. When I sell a DVD or CD, I give it a layer of bubble wrap, then wrap that in cardboard (I save old boxes - the flaps are perfect). That goes in a padded envelope or small box, depending on what I have on hand. It takes more time, but I have never had one arrive damaged.

My local post office actually asked me to give a presentation on correct packaging.

You can play frisbee with the thing and it will not arrive damaged.

Just remember - the bubble wrap, 12"x12" section is around .50, and a padded envelope is about $1. That's $1.50, plus listing and final value fees, and PayPal fees. Take all that into account!

Newspaper - never. No padding value unless you fill a small box, and the DVD case can still shift.

Media mail: Why? First class and media mail are around the same cost up to 8 oz. Media mail is not worth the bother. It takes up to 6 weeks (4 weeks average), and often arrives looking like it was dragged through a swamp. Media Mail is the lowest priority. If there's room on the truck, it goes. Otherwise it sits. Especially over the holidays.

Go to the USPS site and do a shipping calculation for 1st class and media mail, for a 6, 8 and 10 oz package. It's just not worth it.

I use media mail for HEAVY books, and I discourage it. I make it clear in my listings that media mail will save them a couple of bucks when compared to Priority, but it will take weeks, possibly months, to arrive.

It's also asking for negative feedback and poor ratings with the annoying 5 star system they now use.
